Well, what a weekend! My first time attending Mint Festival, but the sixth year for the festival itself, this year being held at Stockeld Estate near Wetherby. With a pretty stacked lineup across five primary stages, along with a few smaller tents and areas with DJ’s playing all day there was no shortage of chances to party wherever you found yourself. Highlights for me over the course of the day were Bobby O’Donnell and Elliot Adamson getting things going on the Edible stage and Enzo Siragusa B2B with Archie Hamilton a little later on the outdoor System stage which then welcomed the hotly anticipated first set from Seth Troxler going B2B with Craig Richards.

The outdoor System stage was packed all afternoon – Seth Troxler B2B Craig Richards

More treats were to be had in each arena once darkness had fell with the respective headline acts rounding things off. I stuck around the System stage to see Ricardo Villalobos before heading back to the Edible arena to see the night out watching Troxler, The Martinez Brothers and Eats Everything close things out in style. Elsewhere on the ‘Knee Deep In Sound’ stage Hot Since 82 headlined and Hannah Wants wrapped thing up on ‘No Curfew’s stage – both of whom I’d liked to have seen play but sadly there are always going to be clashes of set times. Other artists I’d have liked to have seen were Loco Dice , Patrick Topping and Tobias. Special mention goes out to the little Red Bull tent which was putting some absolutely banging tunes out all day long. Not sure who was who playing there at what time but everytime I wandered past it was going off!

17854917_1615030131857626_2526202364011004519_oJust 4 days to go until Mint Festival kicks off in the new venue of Stockeld Estate just outside Leeds this Saturday (23rd September), and it looks like things are coming together nicely with the tents going up and the weather forecast looking good…

So excited for this as it will be my first time at Mint Festival and the first time I will have opportunity to see a lot of the artists booked. To say the lineup is good is quite frankly a massive understatement! I mean come on….just check out who is playing on the 5+ stages

Some big names on all stages and it will be hard to decide where to head. Personally the Edible, System and KDIS stage will be hard to tear myself away from being a big Seth Troxler and Eats Everything fan, but I am all about discovering new artists and sounds so I will make sure I get around and see what’s happening everywhere, get some photos and post an article right here next week when I’ve recovered..

It will be amazing.

2017 has been a very exciting and fruitful year up to present for Sheffield’s underground electronic music scene, with various new and already established club nights throughout the city flourishing and the very successful launch event of the No Bounds Festival back in June at Hope Works (the main event still to come in October), to news of a brand new venue opening very soon Southbank Warehouse, we should all be feeling very positive indeed for the city’s future party credentials.

One such reason to be excited is a new Sheffield collective of likeminded and talented DJ’s and producers – Decibel. The group kicked things off in style with a sold out launch night at The Harley  on Glossop road back in May, before taking things to Nottingham in July for round 2 at the Red Bar.

I was lucky enough to be able to get to the launch night at the Harley – a great venue that puts on some great nights and shows support for up and coming talent, both local and from further afield and pretty much perfect for this much anticipated event. The Decibel roster of resident talent  Josh Hvaal , Tyrone ‘Moults’ Moulton and Tique were joined by guests AJ & Wellings (BHAUS, Vector, Esc.), Ashley Fearn (Bunker), George Marshman (Bunker) and Dylan Austen (Houserox) – all of whom’s sets went down well with the crowd. A grim, wet night did nothing to deter the party hungry and by midnight the place was jumping with energy, the dancefloor full with pretty much everyone getting down to the mixture of quality house grooves and darker techno selections. It was plain to see on the night and from photos at the event that this crew had great respect for one another’s sets and individual style behind the decks. This along with a great venue and awesome crowd (who never stopped moving!) made for a great vibe and Decibel’s launch night a huge success.

Decibel’s sights are now set on their forthcoming event, and it’s one that really shouldn’t be missing as the guys have have taken things up a notch by booking the hard hitting dark techno duo GAIST to headline. Decibel 3.0 Freshers Reload, the second in Sheffield and one which conveniently coincides with freshers and makes a move to a new venue – Yellow Arch Studios. Decibel’s ‘Freshers Reload’ is set to happen on the 21st of September at Yellow Arch who will be hosting two rooms on the night, one being home to Decibel residents – Josh Hvaal, Moults and Tique along with Roman Rocha and will be headlined by GAIST who will be playing a live 2 hour set.

It’s been a little while since I put a new track out due to been busy with some other things but following on from some ideas I had while producing ‘Turbulence’ and using the HYBRID 3 synth VST comes my latest track ‘Tectonic’.

Exciting news is I’ve now started work on my next EP (currently nameless),  which will hopefully be finished in the next couple of weeks.

My latest track ‘Sabre’ is now added on the site along with being on my Soundcloud page and over on Channel Chro-mag.

I really enjoyed putting this track together and found myself moving in different directions to where I had initially set out, but I guess that is one of the many great things about creating music and why it is so exciting and stimulating to find new sounds and techniques which inspire me to produce in a completely new way

Let me know what you think and have a listen to Sabre right here..

Sheffield’s No Bounds Festival launch event website has been updated with new lineup info as well as a running order for the day and night schedule – Friday the 9th of June will see a seriously stacked line up from 1pm running through until 7am Saturday morning with artists split over two venues – Hope Works and Trafalgar Warehouse

From the NBF website : “Our launch event on June 9th is going to be a very special 18 hours of music, art, technology and dancing! Over 2 venues and a total of 6 performance areas there will feature multiple live, spoken word, av and dj performances from an incredible array of talent.

The day session will include live coding and modular synthesis workshops, a Q & A with Nina Kraviz as well as a diverse range of live performances. The night session will expand into two simultaneous raves in two warehouses with a free shuttle service running between them.”
