2017 has been a very exciting and fruitful year up to present for Sheffield’s underground electronic music scene, with various new and already established club nights throughout the city flourishing and the very successful launch event of the No Bounds Festival back in June at Hope Works (the main event still to come in October), to news of a brand new venue opening very soon Southbank Warehouse, we should all be feeling very positive indeed for the city’s future party credentials.
One such reason to be excited is a new Sheffield collective of likeminded and talented DJ’s and producers – Decibel. The group kicked things off in style with a sold out launch night at The Harley on Glossop road back in May, before taking things to Nottingham in July for round 2 at the Red Bar.
I was lucky enough to be able to get to the launch night at the Harley – a great venue that puts on some great nights and shows support for up and coming talent, both local and from further afield and pretty much perfect for this much anticipated event. The Decibel roster of resident talent Josh Hvaal , Tyrone ‘Moults’ Moulton and Tique were joined by guests AJ & Wellings (BHAUS, Vector, Esc.), Ashley Fearn (Bunker), George Marshman (Bunker) and Dylan Austen (Houserox) – all of whom’s sets went down well with the crowd. A grim, wet night did nothing to deter the party hungry and by midnight the place was jumping with energy, the dancefloor full with pretty much everyone getting down to the mixture of quality house grooves and darker techno selections. It was plain to see on the night and from photos at the event that this crew had great respect for one another’s sets and individual style behind the decks. This along with a great venue and awesome crowd (who never stopped moving!) made for a great vibe and Decibel’s launch night a huge success.
Decibel’s sights are now set on their forthcoming event, and it’s one that really shouldn’t be missing as the guys have have taken things up a notch by booking the hard hitting dark techno duo GAIST to headline. Decibel 3.0 Freshers Reload, the second in Sheffield and one which conveniently coincides with freshers and makes a move to a new venue – Yellow Arch Studios. Decibel’s ‘Freshers Reload’ is set to happen on the 21st of September at Yellow Arch who will be hosting two rooms on the night, one being home to Decibel residents – Josh Hvaal, Moults and Tique along with Roman Rocha and will be headlined by GAIST who will be playing a live 2 hour set.
Meanwhile in room 2 things will we be left to BHAUS, who will be representing an intimate and fresh blend of Tech House, Techno and Disco underground talent from around the UK.
